Chapter 7
World History

-       -Trade was one of the best ways to communicate with the other side of the world.
-       -There were three big Road’s that people exchange and communicated. Silk roads, sand roads, and sea roads.
-       -Silk road: - for 2000 years exchange across Eurasia
-       -These roads were connected Middle East, Europe, Asia and part of India.
-       -On this road they exchange; silk, bamboo, paper, ginger, furs, amber, copper vessels, slaves, cotton, herbal medicine, dried fruits, gold coins, glassware, jewelry, olive oil, and so on.
-       -Since the road was covered a big area each places had there own stuff and they trade it.
-       -Beside the stuff exchange they also exchange Gods. Most of the merchants are materialistic because that was there life based on. The Indian people specially Buddhism religion were against materialistic, but since they became a merchant they become materialist…. This shows there is a religion shift.
-       -Also they culture exchange between the countries, like Indian with Europe, china and middle east countries, also language exchange.
-       -The worst part was disease transit. The merchant were take the disease and go to all over the road route. -During that time there were a lot of people and solders were die.
-       - Sea Roads: - this road had a lot of port and commerce center.
-       -Venice was one of the major centers of commerce.
-       -This road is a bit different from Silk roads because this road has a big land to cover and involves a lot of different kind of countries.
-       -Also these roads traveled most with the ship.
-       -They usually exchange spicy, cotton, copper, ivory, Gold, and so on.
-       -But most of the stuff is depend on where the ship came from cause if the ship came from china they expect spicy but if the ship came from India Ivory and gold. Arabia ship brings perfumes.
-        -Also this ship didn’t go anytime they want because the weather might be bad for the ship so they have to wait the best time to go. For example from November to February they ship only can go toward -Madagascar and from April to September the ship only can go toward to India and Asia.
-       -Sand Roads: - this road across the Sahara
-       -This road most focuses what goes out from Africa to Euroasia.
-       -On this road the main transport was animals. Camel can stay without water for 10 days so people used Camels to transfer during the Sahara road.
-       -Gold and slavery was the most items they transfer from Africa to Middle east. Islamic religion was the major religion during that time and I would like say the merchant bring this religion to Africa.

Chapter 5
                        Reflections: Religion and History

-     -   In all time history Religion was a very sensitive subject and still happened.
-      - Everyone has their own understanding and believed about their own religions based on where they live and by blood.
-    -   Most of people are not open to change or to try new things. When they got ask to try new thing they thought they are changing their religion. Most of the time they compared they religion with everything.
-      - Also some historians don’t like the experience that they had been facing about religions and with the believers.
-      -  And some religions were very challenged to prove that was really happened by the historians.
-      -  Historians said they had no serious prove that the religion leaders are really they were lead by the spirit of God.
-      -  In my thought, I am a Christian and I strongly believed that the holy sprit will lead and could happen write the bible based on the Holy Spirit. But the problem is when translated over the year they might lose some word of God or they might add some their thought so this will be a big problem to the new generation believers.
-      -  The other problem was the culture with religion because in different places the same religion will worship different way. This is because the culture. Culture and religions are two different ways but some people are combining them and take them together, then at the end the culture will be the religion.

Chapter 4
 Documents Note

-      --  Confucius was very helpful for Chinese civilization.
-       -- Even though by the time wasn’t that much followers but after the master death his disciples most his wise thought and quotes.
-       -- The book is called Analects.
-       -- People believed that this book gives a head start for literature, also it become important book on the educated and wise people.
-       -- The master was more logic when people answer any kind of question they don’t answer on the write way instead they will ask a question back.
-       -- Example, “ about serving the spirits of the dead. The Master said, “While you are not able to serve man, how can you serve their spirit?”
-       -- But the logic was very help full it’s not like other religion if you want to go to heaven you had to do this. Some of them are not make sense but we keep doing it because we all don’t want to go to hell. But his logic is basically how to apply religion in real life. That is why still people are practicing even different world than China.

-       -- The Hindu religion is based on a song or poem that talks about or describes the power between two branches of the same family.

The first Civilization Note

-       The first civilization started around 3500 B.C.E. in 3 different places.
1) Mesopotamia (Iraq) – earliest written language
2) The Nile River (Egyptian civilization)- took shapes as a unified territorial state in which cities were rather less prominent.
            3) Central coast Peru civilization – this region received very little rainfall, but it was punctuated by dozens of rivers that brought the snowmelt.
-        Then they become seven, the four additional civilization joined
1)    Olmee Civilization
2)    Norte Chico Civilization
3)    Nile Valley Civilization
4)    Mesopotamian Civilization
5)    Oxus Civilization
6)    Indus Valley Civilization
7)    Chinese Civilization (Shang Dynasty)
-       In Indus valley civilization they had very large city and they had a lot of builds.
-       Mesopotamian victory shows a lot of civilization on their art.
-       Shows a slavery art and War art.
-       In this society gender is matter, man has more priority than women and Son has more priority than daughter.
-       The agriculture societies are way far from Paleolithic society on gender idea.
-       Basically women’s has no any kind of priority. Man is a head of the house and he is the one who can make a decisions. He is the only one can have more than one wives.
-       Even though some women’s acting as a rulers, priests and scholars, while others pushed against the limits and restrictions assigned to women.
-       Writing start after drawing.
-       In Mesopotamia and elsewhere, writing served an accounting function, recording who had paid their taxes.
-       Also recording who owed what to the temple, and how much workers had earned.
-       Their first were drawing like using symbols to designate both whole words.
-       Most of the first civilizations had common future.
-       But there are some differences, which is political organization, religious beliefs, and the role of women’s.
-       Mesopotamia and Egypt civilizations were based on the river valleys and depend on their agriculture productive.
-       Nile was for Egypt and Tigris and Euphrates rivers for Mesopotamia.
-       They both get a natural soil and water on the river from other places.
-       But deserts, mountains, seas, and cataracts surrounded Egypt.
-       But Egypt has more free security than Mesopotamian.

My FIrst draft

Mastewal Abate
World History I
Patricia Andrews

Paleolithic Era is happened 150,000 years ago. They are a very simple and easy people who lived in Africa. They were the first human beings who lived in this earth. They were very small and they used old/simple stone tools. Their life, culture, ideas and loves life has storied behind. There society filled with a lot of freedom. No boss or any powerful person in each person’s life. Our roots and bases come from this generation but they are very egalitarian than latter society in all their life style.
My first reasons that I said Paleolithic’s are more egalitarians than other society is because of their love ideas. “But I did have lovers and so did he …. Because affairs … is something that even people from long ago knew. Even my father’s father’s father knew. There have also always been fights where poison arrows are shot and people are killed because of that. Having affairs is one of the things God gave us….” (Page 49) This quote shows me how the Paleolithic’s people are very free for what they want to do. Doing affairs is the worst thing in this society and very sin for any kind of religions but for them affairs is like a gift from God. Any one can do it. Especially for women’s they proud of it because they have just lovers or they own lovers on the top of their marriage. The wife’s are doing it also husbands. This is shows how egalitarians from latter society because none of latter society support affairs.
My second reasons that I said Paleolithic’s are more egalitarians than other society is because of the way they felt about their lost. “In your heart, your child, your mother, and your father are all equal. When any one of them dies, your heart feels pain”. (Page 49) This quote shown us how everyone is equal in his or her life. In modern society when we lost any member of family in any circumstance we felt so much pain but it depend on the person who dies our pain has different levels. In Paleolithic’s society when someone past away they felt the same pains for dad or husband, child or brother, the sorrow is the same.
My third reasons that I said Paleolithic’s are more egalitarians than other society is because of the life style. In this society there is no agriculture, offices, governments and low. No one is on a batter place than another. No one has to obey to other unless they want to.  They can have anything they want in the world. They can kill any animal any time they want to eat. They can go far away and own the land as much as they want. No one can say anything to him or her. They had so many freedoms to live in this world.
In Paleolithic’s society there is no better man or better women they are equal. Any thing that the man does also women does it.
- the paleolithic people were highly egalitarian societies so they economy couldn't grow fast and couldn't make improvements because people leave anytime they want and do what ever they want in any time they want. There was no rules and leaders.
- man Female are equal so they work the same job. San people in Southern Africa study reference the 70% of gathered done by women's and the 30% of hunted ( meets) by male.
- the teenagers has no problem of sex because they can play around with girls, the guys beat their wifes, the wife's shard their husband with other women's.
- The Australian's are a bit different than others " they seem'd to set no value upon anything we gave them... they think themselves provided with all the necessary of life."
-Agriculture change the life style of the first people because  they people start to do the farmer things to survive instead of just focusing on the gather - hunting.
- this kind of life style helps to people to stick around together, and start to lose the Egalitarian because people will have own a place for farming, owns plants because they work hard to grow them means the owner will be the hard worker.
- the first language was Bantu, Nigeria and Cameroon were speak this language.
- the people who speak bantu migrate their language and their ironwork to the other world while they are migrate to the other part of world.

Is Paleolithic society were more egalitarian than later society?

Yes, the Paleolithic people are more egalitarians than other later society. Their life is very independent and free. No one has a right to ask anyone how and why he or she did the things what they did. They can do everything the way that they want and the way that they felt. As an example, I will take their marriage life. The parents tell or encourage the girl to get married. She might not love the girl yet but they society (culture) believed that once they start to live together the love will come slowly.  Then the women will stay with the man only if she loved him. Even after they lived happily life with the kids they can also do affairs.  Life will be more enjoyable when they think they have more than one man or girl. They believed that this is one of the best gift they receive from God can go out with other man’s while they are married so the man’s can do as well. As a women it the only thing they have because they can so nothing besides having more than one lover. They are way different than the other society because none of the other society accepts the fact that both man and women can have sex with anyone they want while they are married.

- the first peoples adapted our earth easily withe the variety of environment without benefits of deliberate farming or animal husbandry.
- the first people called "gathering and hunting" because 70% of their live is based on gathered and 30% of their lives was hunted.
- they used stone as their tools. They called Paleolithic or Old Stone Age people.
- then around 12,000 years ago they start to move and change the life style to Agriculture.
- But most of the Paleolithic and Agriculture (Neolithic) are written based on the materials found. Examples tools and footprints because on this time there was no writing and reading.
- Paleolithic used to Old/Simple stone tools.
- Socially, they formed ourselves into moving bands (20 - 40) of Gather - Hunters.
- they migrated out of Africa to other continents except Antarctica.
- Paleolithic are more EGALITARIAN = believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
-In Paleolithic era everyone can have gun, everyone can do what ever they want to do. No Boss, a lot of freedoms to live in this world.
- Hand Axes - first stone tool
- they had as 200 miles large networks of human communication.
- then the first people start to move to the other continents they major reasons is the Cold Ice climate.
